Oratile Maitisa, known for her role as Eunice in Skeem Saam, has embraced her calling to become a sangoma. She shared with TimesLIVE in 2021 that she feels fully prepared to embark on this spiritual journey.

On Instagram, Oratile announced her transition to being a sangoma. Discussing her spiritual path, which began in her childhood, she explained it was challenging but believes it enables her to help people beyond her acting skills.

"It was not an easy journey, but it was rewarding. I learned patience, and it was worth it. It feels like a blessing. Praying comes naturally to me. Having the ability to help people is both amazing and challenging because each person has unique issues," Oratile said.

She also mentioned the difficulties she faced in her spiritual experiences but persevered, seeking peace in her life.

"At times, it seemed nearly impossible, but I remained strong and committed. It feels wonderful and overwhelming. I’ve longed for this peace," she added. Oratile shared insights about the spiritual gift of healing, calling it a blessing.

"I never imagined that being a gifted child would bring so many blessings and challenges. I've learned to distinguish between good and bad, something I struggled with before.

"I’ve learned to respect myself to earn respect. I've learned to sustain myself both intellectually and emotionally and to support myself. I've learned to be happy for others. Most importantly, I've learned patience, something I lacked before," she reflected.

When asked about balancing her acting career with her role as a sangoma, Oratile expressed confidence that her ancestors would understand her decisions when she communicated with them.

"Our ancestors are our guardians. You can talk to them about anything. They understand and protect you. They will understand my plans when I share them," she noted.

Oratile also advised those in the entertainment industry with a spiritual calling to honor it, emphasizing that it is not something to ignore.

"Respect your gift. It's not to be taken lightly, sugarcoated, or neglected. It needs to be nurtured and preserved. It requires someone who listens and collaborates with and helps others in their daily lives," Oratile advised.
