In the wake of the tragic death of South African rapper AKA, his father, Tony Forbes, has expressed the profound sorrow and unending love he feels for his son. 

Over a year after the devastating event that took the life of the award-winning artist, whose real name was Kiernan Forbes, Tony Forbes wrote an emotional letter, revealing the depth of his grief and the strong bond he shared with his son.

In a moving Instagram post, Tony shared a picture of himself with AKA, along with a heartfelt message. "Don't worry boy, you and I will sing together like we talked... I promise it's Friday again and I miss you more than ever, it hurts so much. 

I wonder what you are doing now, who you are with, did you remember to wish Ma and Pa happy birthday, what you want to say to me... so many questions, come to me," he wrote, his words filled with longing and unanswered questions that haunt those who grieve.

AKA, who was tragically shot in Durban in February 2023 alongside his friend, the well-known chef Tebello "Tibz" Motsoane, left a significant mark on the South African music scene. His talent, charisma, and dedication earned him a large following both at home and internationally. For Tony Forbes, however, the loss is incredibly personal and deeply painful as he deals with the emptiness left by his son's premature death.

AKA's mother, Lynn Forbes, has also shared her path through grief. In a recent Instagram post, she mentioned that visiting her son's grave has become a source of comfort and peace. "Visiting your grave has become easier to do. 

It brings me so much comfort, grounds me and gives me peace at the same time," she wrote, finding solace in updating her late son about his eight-year-old daughter, Kairo Forbes, whom he had with DJ Zinhle.
