SABC ends Muvhango: The final episode is set to air on 2 July 2024

 

The future of SABC2’s long-standing and cherished telenovela, "Muvhango," is now uncertain. After entertaining audiences for 27 years, the current season is set to conclude on Tuesday, leaving both viewers and the show's dedicated cast and crew in a state of apprehension, as reported by City Press.

The SABC and "Muvhango" management have not yet signed a new contract, and the reasons for the delay remain unclear. This has put the show's employees, many of whom support families, in a precarious situation, with some already seeking other job opportunities. Crew members express their anxiety, fearing potential job losses and the uncertain future of the Tshivenda telenovela.

As the current season ends, fans will see the much-anticipated wedding of Reneilwe and Kgosi. However, with no confirmed plans for new episodes, the show's devoted followers are growing concerned. The potential for the network to air reruns during the production hiatus adds to the uncertainty surrounding "Muvhango's" future.

This situation has left loyal viewers and the hardworking individuals behind the scenes feeling uneasy as they await news about "Muvhango's" renewal and the resolution of the current contract stalemate.

Sources revealed:

"Everyone is in the dark; no one knows what's happening. I think there are just delays from the SABC side, or maybe they are considering canceling it; I don't know. There are no demands from their side, so we don't know what's causing the hold-up. We don't have an episode for tomorrow [Wednesday]; maybe they will air replacement content or 'Muvhango' repeats."

Another source added:

"The last episode airs on Tuesday. This is our livelihood. This news comes as a shock and disappointment. We hope for better days."

When recently asked if the show was ending, Ndlovu stated there was no truth to the rumors and was unsure where they originated. Thanduxolo Jindela, publicist for Word of Mouth Pictures, confirmed that season 25 would end on Tuesday and that no new contract had been signed, according to News24.

The future of the long-running South African soap opera "Muvhango" remains uncertain as the show’s producers continue negotiations with the SABC.  

While the cast is on a production break, the show’s publicist emphasized that discussions with the SABC are ongoing, despite the current season's impending end. Both parties recognize the program's value, which has been a staple on the SABC for many years.

However, the publicist also acknowledged concerns about the show’s future, noting its status as one of the longest-running programs on the public broadcaster and expressing gratitude to the viewers for their support. The fate of "Muvhango" will likely hinge on the outcome of the ongoing discussions between the show's producers and the SABC.
