TV Stars Nompilo Maphumulo and Menzi Biyela Reportedly Returns To Uzalo
"Nompilo Maphumulo Returns to Uzalo: Exciting New Chapter for Nosipho Xulu"
Yvonne Siphuka, communications officer at Stained Glass, the production company behind Uzalo, confirmed the news. "We're delighted to welcome Nompilo back to Uzalo," she said. "Her character's new journey in prison promises to captivate viewers with a fresh and exciting storyline."
Maphumulo's departure last year to join Generations: The Legacy left a significant gap in Uzalo. Nosipho's dramatic imprisonment for the murder of her husband, Mfu Gwala (played by Menzi Biyela), greatly affected the show's viewership, which had previously reached a peak of 11 million.
Data from the Broadcast Research Council of South Africa shows that Uzalo's viewership has since dropped to 5 million, while Generations: The Legacy now attracts 4 million viewers. This decline has prompted Uzalo's producers to introduce new talent to draw back their audience.
New additions to the cast include Brenda Mhlongo, former soccer stars Siyabonga "Bhele" Nomvete, and Neil Tovey. There is also speculation about the potential return of Menzi Biyela's character, Pastor Gwala, adding to the anticipation.
Despite the challenges, Uzalo's producers, led by King David Mokwevho, remain optimistic. "We are not discouraged," Mokwevho said.
"We still lead our competitors and are confident in our ability to engage our audience." He also acknowledged the growing competition from streaming services like Netflix and Showmax, which have drawn many viewers away from traditional television.Uzalo continues to dominate South African TV, and Maphumulo's return is expected to boost its popularity. Fans eagerly await Nosipho's next chapter, with producers promising an enthralling and engaging storyline to keep viewers hooked.
