Kaizer Chiefs have officially secured left-back Bongani Sam from Orlando Pirates. The 26-year-old player, who was part of the pre-season tour in Turkey, had to return early due to an injury, along with fellow left-back Edmilson Dove.

Sam was signed to fill the gap left by Sifiso Hlanti, but the team might still need to make additional acquisitions due to injury concerns. He has inked a three-year contract with the option for an extension with the Soweto club.

However, he was not expected to participate in their game against Young Africans on Sunday, which resulted in a 4-0 defeat in Bloemfontein. Sam had a successful loan stint at Moroka Swallows last season, where he made a notable impact in 15 matches before being recalled by Pirates due to financial difficulties at the now-defunct Dube Birds.
