The Siya crew has uncovered that Cape Town City's Khanyisa Mayo is on the move, with both Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns missing out on signing him. Although these prominent Gauteng clubs were keen, it appears that City has reached a preliminary agreement with an undisclosed North African team.

While the specifics of the deal are not yet clear, the City players have been alerted about Mayo’s forthcoming departure. Over the past seasons, Mayo has been impressive, scoring 11 goals last year and consistently delivering strong performances. The Siya crew will keep you informed as more details emerge.

MAYO IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Cape Town City is navigating the situation with Khanyisa Mayo carefully, given the mounting interest in his services. Mayo concluded the 2023/24 season with 10 goals in the league, trailing only behind Golden Boot winner Tshegofatso Mabasa of Orlando Pirates.

He also recorded 11 goals and two assists across all competitions. At the close of the 2022/23 season, Mayo shared the top scorer title with Mamelodi Sundowns’ Peter Shalulile, each netting 12 goals. He has been a key figure in coach Eric Tinkler’s lineup at Cape Town City.

Even though teams like Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs, and Orlando Pirates have shown interest, Cape Town City has shown their intent to keep Mayo by offering him a new five-year contract, which would keep him with the club until June 2028. However, the club is open to negotiating if a substantial offer is made.

The asking price for Mayo has been set at over R30 million by the club’s chairman, John Comitis. Despite recent speculation about a potential move to North Africa, sources close to the club suggest that Mayo remains an important part of Tinkler’s plans for the upcoming season, as City looks to enhance their league performance and compete for titles.

A source stated, “Khanyisa Mayo is a crucial player for Cape Town City. The club’s focus is on achieving success, not just selling players. With recent squad enhancements, the goal is a successful season, and Mayo plays a significant role in that vision.”

For Mayo, whether seeking a major move domestically or internationally, his representatives face the challenge of securing a transfer. Despite being a leading PSL scorer in recent years, Mayo remains with Cape Town City and has yet to secure a spot in the Bafana Bafana team.
